Placement Advocacy

Description

Description: This course covers the placement provisions in §19-7-101(2), including conditions of placement. The course is structured using a placement continuum framework from least restrictive to most restrictive placement. The course covers the legal provisions in §19-7-101(2), legal application, in-court and out-of-court advocacy, lived expertise, and practice tips for effective placement advocacy.

Learning Objectives:

1. Attorneys will be able to apply §19-7-101(2) to their legal advocacy.

2. Attorneys will be able to evaluate placements according to least restrictive and most connected principles. 

3. Attorneys will understand the legal requirements for types of placements, including the legal hurdles for stepping up and stepping down between placements. 

4. Attorneys will understand the requirements of higher level of care. 

5. Attorneys will analyze placements according to the placement continuum.

6. Attorneys will incorporate youth voice and preference in their placement advocacy.
