Presenters: Jenna Mazzucca, Alison Bettenberg.

As appeals become increasingly common, GALs need to be aware of their role in creating a good record, long before a termination trial, to stand on appeal. This legal strategy training will address reasonable efforts findings, documenting reasons for suspension of visitation where applicable, ensuring ICWA compliance, and engaging in relative search efforts. Participants will understand and apply the role of the GAL in ensuring that DHS and judicial officers comply with all rights and responsibilities afforded to families to avoid having a TPR overturned and avoid a delay in permanency. Participants will have an opportunity to share successful legal strategies.

1 CLE will be provided.
