Sponsored by the Office of the Child’s Representative, the Office of Alternate Defense Counsel, and the Colorado Juvenile Defender Center.
The OCR, ADC, and CJDC are teaming up to provide a FREE state-wide conference for GALs in Delinquency cases and juvenile defenders. This conference will focus on the unique role and standards of practice for delinquency cases and will include sessions on:
- Challenging ethical issues in delinquency cases
- Motions practice
- Consequences of taking a plea
- Conditions of confinement
- Assessment tools
- Least restrictive placements
- Holistic representation of a juvenile (initial investigation/education, immigration, crossover, pretrial services, mental health services, and LGBTQ issues)
- Understanding the new CJD 04-06 standards for GALs in JD cases
- Maximizing the role of the GAL throughout the life of a delinquency case
Food: Lunch will be provided on March 3rd and morning/afternoon snacks and coffee will be available both days. We are only able to accomodate vegetarian and gluten-free in addition to our standard menu. If you have other restrictions, please plan to bring or purchase your own lunch.
CLE: CLE credit is pending. Typically two-day conferences are awarded between 13-15 CLE credits total.
Fees: There is NO cost to attend this training; however, the OCR will accept a suggested $75 donation to CJDC or ADC as our official Conference Beneficiaries. Please bring your checkbook to the actual training if you wish to donate.
