Colorado’s New ICWA Statute: A Multi-Agency Training

Description

On May 31, 2025, Colorado’s Governor signed H.B. 25-1204, enacting into law a new, comprehensive Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) specific to Colorado. This new state legislation codifies the federal Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) law and regulations into state law and provides additional protections for Indian children and tribes in child custody proceedings. In order to prepare practitioners for these changes, the Office of the Child’s Representative (OCR) is hosting a training focusing on the changes to ICWA law and practice as a result of H.B. 25-1204.

Presenters at the webinar will include representatives from the OCR, the Colorado Office of Respondent Parents’ Counsel, Colorado Department of Human Services, Casey Family Programs, and Denver City Attorney’s Office. The webinar is open to all community partners.
