The new Foster Youth in Transition Program (HB21-0194) requires a holistic and individualized approach to direct representation of youth. This training will cover the requirements of the program and advocacy and litigation strategies for effective youth representation. The presenters will offer practical tips and strategies to the most commonly asked questions and practice trends seen across the state upon implementation of the program. Presenters will address how this impacts advocacy in other areas of law, such as immigration and education, and will discuss the benefits of using case consultants on these cases. Finally, presenters will address practice concerns arising under the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct, specifically confidentiality and safety concerns implicating Rule 1.4 and advocacy efforts, and limitations and delegation of authority under Rule 1.2.
This training is in follow up to the Foster Youth Transition Program session at OCR’s 2021 Annual Conference. We encourage you to view that video first: https://coloradochildrep.org/ocr-annual-conference-2021/
This training is available to OCR attorneys and case consultants only. The password is the same for the Litigation Toolkit.
