Our country is hurting, frustrated and reeling with unrest. In these challenging times, we stand with the Black community and those who have been severely affected by the senseless killings of unarmed black men and women due to historical and institutional racism, injustice, oppression, and disparate treatment because of the color of their skin. Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Tony McDade, Sean Reed, and Cornelius Fredrick. We say their names with you.
We. Can’t. Breathe.
OCR was established to advocate for change, equality and to be a voice for the voiceless. Racial disproportionality persists in the child welfare, juvenile justice and truancy matters that comprise our caseload. As Guardians ad litem, you advocate for justice and give voice to children and youth every single day. We would not be living in our purpose and mission if we remained silent. While there is still so much work to be done, we are an ally and want to acknowledge the hurt and frustration you and the youth you represent may be feeling. We are listening, understanding and lending our voice to do our part.
